Brief History of 3 Time Tour de France Winner Alberto Contador

The journey of Alberto Contador’s cycling career has been very inspiring. Contador started his career with Tour de Pologne in 2003. In 2004, he could not perform well and felt very sick during the first stage of the Vuelta a Asturias. So much so that he had to undergo life threatening major surgery due to a vascular brain disorder. After that, he worked hard, retrained himself and made a comeback in the fifth stage of the following years’ ‘Tour Down Under’.  He won many other stages in similar events. In 2006 he also won stages at Tour de Suisse and Tour de Romandie.

His major victory came with Paris-Nice in 2007. After that, he won the 2007 Tour De France by soundly beating all the top competitors in the race. That year, he signed with the Astana team for the next season of races. In 2008, his lack of experience was evident in many races he participated in. He soon realized it and began to work on multiple skills necessary to be a top Stage Race contender. It all paid off and he finally won both the 2008 Giro d'Italia, and the 2008 Vuelta a España races. In 2009, Contador did not participate in the Giro d'Italia to remain focused on Tour de France. As a result, he recorded his second Tour win at the 2009 Tour de France. Thrilled by his second victory, he continued to work hard on his performance and amazingly won the 2010 Tour de France by beating Andy Schleck by 31 seconds. Marked by so many victories, his career has become an inspiration to many cyclists from Spain and from around the Globe.

As an additional note of interest, Alberto Contador has won the last 5 Major Tours he has entered. An amazing feat in today’s highly competitive Pro Cycling environment.
